This year I was invited three times to hold a painting workshop at an architecture firm, called VAP. Considering that architects within construction need to follow a relatively strict frame, I was looking for a way to let them think outside of the box for these painting workshops.
And what better way to approach this than with a topic where limits are non-existent, like surrealism? To me this is a fun way to teach the essentials of acrylic painting at the same time as challenging the imagination. Each class I approached them with a different task, to help them get started. Oh boy has it been fun for me to follow the processes and watch the results!
Let me tell you a bit about what I love about this company. Every year they organize art workshops with local artists for their employees, which can be anything from painting to sculpture, printmaking, you name it. A lot of the results from this are displayed in the office and brings a wonderful atmosphere into the working space. And, on top of that, they organize a yearly exhibition where they show their work and invite people for a nice vernissage with food, drinks, snacks and a lot of great vibes. This is also where they release their own calendars with images of their creations from the year. How great is this! Apart from this being a fun activity, it's a beautiful way to let people in the office connect with one another even more outside of working hours, it a wonderful way of brightening up an office, introduces art into the every day life AND helps out the local artists. Win-win-win-win!
