During two weeks this summer I had the opportunity to have an exhibition and open studio at Sundsby Säteri. I have been curious about having an artist residency for a while, and this opened up a lot of thoughts and excitement for me!

First of all, having the possibility to work and at the same time welcome people into your process and results is such a wonderful thing. I wasn’t entirely sure how many visitors would pop in, whether I would get the time or concentration to paint and how painting really works for me on a very specific set out time schedule. But all of the above positively surprised me. People came and went pretty much all the time. I think I had an average of about 80 visitors per day and up to 130 in the weekends. Despite this wonderful number of new meetings, I could still manage to produce and finish 3 new paintings, two of them completely inspired by the surroundings on the wonderful island, Tjörn.

With all these new experiences in my portfolio, I am actually really excited to have an open studio of my own in the future. A cozy little spot for creating, meeting and living. So thank you, Sundsby Säteri, for this opportunity!

Apart from this experience I also really want to put in a word for this absolutely gorgeous place and the heartful people running it. If you ever find yourself in the area, you’d be a fool to miss out on visiting them! If not taking a fika or lunch at their restaurant or check out their garden, at least go for a hike in the nature reserve and enjoy this magical spot!

Here are some photos from my open studio in Tjörn!

The space where I got to spend my two weeks painting and meeting people was a cute little house called "Fårhuset" (The sheep house).

Don't you also want to just visit this place?

The beautiful landscape of the Island Tjörn. I can tell you that this is not at all a bad place to spend a couple of weeks! I spent them in my little van when I wasn't in the studio or out in nature exploring the magical scenery!
